CV-47 USS Philippine Sea 1950 Panama Canal

CV-47 left Norfolk, VA on May 24, 1950 for the Panama Canal heading to San Diego, CA. The ship would be based there as part of the Pacific Fleet and head to the Korean War soon after arrival. Personnel and aircraft (TBM-3E Avengers) from VS-23 were aboard. These photos are from my father's, Esn. Joseph Meinhard, talented eye. He took these photos. He was a pilot with VS-23 and flew the TBM-3E.
