Moving Michigan History, The Daniel B. Harrington Locomotive
How often do you get to assist with an almost 150 year old locomotive move? Not often. Here is the 1878 built Daniel B. Harrington, or D.B. Harrington, or just the "D.B." as some call it. Named after the founder of the Port Huron and Northwestern Railroad (who died before much of its completion) it was part of the railroad's locomotive fleet before being sold off to other companies over its service life. It spent some display time in parks and down at Cedar Point Amusement Park before transfer to the Port Huron Museum where it stay parked in a tent outside of the museum for over 2 decades.
It was then moved to St. Clair Community College for initial metal work and wood working done on it for cosmetic restoration. With its permanent home at the Wrigley Center Lofts ready for it, a move on a very wet and dreary February day was executed with professional precision.
While there is still work to be done on this locomotive to reinstall the cab, sheet metal, and other locomotive parts, my good friend T.J. Gaffney, who headed up this project, will not be short handed with skilled people to lend a hand at final finishing work.
